I ended up with pneumonia twice in college. College, if you're not there to party, is hell. I'm the sort who can and will work myself to death though -- early in my marriage, I almost died of gall bladder disease and it forced me to start taking my own physical needs into account. I don't have fond memories of college and I think people who want to extend the Puer Aeternis "college experience" via grad school are certifiably insane.
I would say about half the women I was friends with in music school dropped out by the second year. I was particularly sad when the only other Music Theory major (another young woman) dropped out due to having constant, debilitating flus.
For many, I think they finish the degree because they don't want to admit they (and their parents) have been had.
